The high altitude operation truck (buyers call it a bucket truck, boom truck or cherry picker depending on where they are from) replaces scaffolding, crane baskets and ladders for any job done above the second floor.

Do the math on the alternatives for a moment. A scaffolding crew of four needs most of a day to build and strike a tower. A self-propelled boom lift cannot legally drive on public roads at 80 km/h -- you are paying a trailer and a driver every time it moves. A truck-mounted boom travels site to site on its own plate, sets up on four outriggers in three minutes, and one operator handles the whole job. Fleet managers in the Philippines, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia keep telling us the same thing: the truck version pays for itself within 18 months against rental lifts.

Technical Specifications

This is the 22m rig that sells itself. Dongfeng 4x2 chassis, Yuchai 4DK up front — 165 horses, Euro 3, Euro 5 available if you need it. 8-speed stick, 7.00R20 rubber, hydraulic steering.

Boom is five-section HG70 telescopic, turret turns full circle without hitting a dead zone, and the X-type outriggers will set you straight on ground that’s off by as much as 3°.

Safety hardware, all standard fit:

- Load moment limiter -- cuts boom functions before you tip, not after

- Rupture valves on every cylinder -- boom stays put if a hose lets go

- Emergency electric pump -- brings the bucket down with the engine dead

- Overload alarm in the bucket plus at the ground station

- Insulated fiberglass bucket option rated 45kV for live-line crews

Bucket measures 1.4 x 0.7 x 1.1m, carries two workers and 30kg of tools to a combined 200kg. Platform self-leveling holds 1.5 degrees through the envelope. Cycle time, stowed to full height: 90 seconds.
