Is the SHACMAN X5000 Dump Truck Right for Your Project?
A buyer in Lagos asked me last month why the X5000 costs more than an X3000 when both are 8x4 tippers on a 31 tonne plate. You are paying for the frame, the cab, and the fact that the truck is still straight after four years of quarry work. Whether that is worth your money depends on one number: your cycle count.
1. What it is built to do
Face to crusher, spoil heap to fill, muck out of a basement dig. Three to forty kilometres a lap, eight to fifteen laps a shift, loaded one way and empty the other. That is the job the X5000 was specified around. Put the same chassis on 800 km highway runs and you are hauling 15.5 tonnes of steel around for nothing.
Announced as the SX33195D276, it runs 31,000 kg gross, 15,500 kg kerb and 15,370 kg rated payload. You will see 40 tonnes payload and 49 tonnes GVW in some listings, so ask which axle rating and which registration those figures refer to. On a road legal 8x4 in most of Africa and the Middle East, 31 tonnes is where the conversation starts.
2. The configuration that decides whether it lasts
Weichai WP12.430E62, 11.6 litres, 430 hp, a Fast 12 speed manual and a 5.92 rear axle. Nothing exotic, and that is the point. Every diesel mechanic from Mombasa to Tashkent has opened this engine, which matters at 2 a.m. when the dealer is closed and the truck is 300 km from the capital.
The frame is a reinforced ladder in high strength steel with local plates at the suspension mounts, where aggregate trucks crack first. Bodies run 5.6 to 5.8 m, 8 mm NM400 or NM450 floor and 6 mm sides, with a manganese liner if the rock is sharp. Export spec also raises radiator capacity and fan control for 48 degree heat, and a pre-filter ahead of the main element turns weekly filter changes into monthly ones in a quarry. Write both into the order. A verbal assurance tends to vanish between the quotation and the bill of lading.
3. X5000 against X3000 and F3000
Item | X5000 8x4 | X3000 8x4 | F3000 8x4 |
Engine | WP12.430E62, 430 hp | WP12.380E32, 375 hp | WP10.380, 380 hp |
Gearbox | Fast 12-speed | Fast 12-speed | Fast 9 or 12-speed |
GVW / rated payload | 31 t / 15.37 t | 31 t / about 15.2 t | 31 t / about 15.0 t |
Cab | High roof, two sleepers | High roof | Standard roof |
Typical duty | Quarry, mining, 24/7 cycles | Mixed construction and logistics | Budget fleets, lighter quarry work |
Reference FOB band | Highest of the three | Mid | Lowest |
The X3000 does about 80% of what the X5000 does for less money, and the F3000 is the truck you buy when capital is the binding constraint. The X5000 earns its premium on resale and on the frame staying straight past 300,000 km.
4. What the numbers say
SHACMAN export volume rose 34.2% year on year in the first half of 2026. Batches of X5000 aggregate tippers went to stone logistics companies in Vietnam and Cameroon in the second quarter, and the feedback was boring in the best possible way: fewer frame repairs, stable payload, nothing dramatic at 2,000 hours. Parts warehouses in Tashkent, Lagos and Yangon now quote 48 hours on frame sections, heavy leaf springs and body liners.
Loaded, the truck burns 30 to 35 litres per 100 km on quarry work, 22 to 25 empty. Fourteen loaded laps of a 30 km round trip is roughly 150 litres a day, and fuel decides whether the truck is profitable at all. WEVB engine braking is standard and handles a long descent, tyres land around 70,000 to 80,000 km, and the service interval is 50,000 km.
5. Specifying for your market
Export X5000s come Euro II through Euro V. Euro II tolerates high sulphur diesel and basic workshop practice, while Euro V wants low sulphur fuel and a laptop with the right software. Buying Euro V for a market running 5,000 ppm diesel is a fast route to a clogged aftertreatment.
Left hand drive is standard, right hand drive is built on the line. Body volume should follow material density, because 20 cubic metres of granite at 1.6 tonnes per cubic metre fills at 32 tonnes, over the axle rating. A 15 cube box loaded properly moves more legal tonnes than a 20 cube loaded badly.
6. Conclusion
Right truck if your site runs short cycles, your loads are heavy and your workshop knows a Weichai engine and a Fast gearbox. Wrong truck if you need 500 hp for a mountain grade, or your mileage is mostly highway.
We build tipper bodies on X5000 chassis in Suizhou, Hubei, sized to the material you haul rather than to a catalogue number, and we quote FOB, CIF or CFR with the body drawing attached. Send the route, the material and the daily cycle count. If a cheaper model does the job, we will say that too.
